things we’re leaving in 2018

Bye 2018, take these things with you and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Basing self worth on irrelevant, obsessive numbers like follower count and vacant centimeters between thighs and caloric intake.

Falling for romantic interests that make us feel less than, not listened to, disrespected, unworthy.

Comparing our life trajectories to those who have not had our experiences, lived our lives, walked in our paths.

Feeling pressured to compromise a part of ourselves to make someone else feel happy, satisfied, better.

Being afraid to ask for help. Being afraid to expose vulnerability.

Passing negative judgment on people based on their individual tastes, social media feeds, weaknesses, truths.

Telling people to calm down when they are advocating for something they are passionate about, defending themselves for being wronged, or standing up for what they want.

Staying in situations that are stagnant to our growth because they feel comfortable, familiar, safe.

Letting the panic of criticism keep us from expressing our creativity, our thoughts, our love.

Rushing through life experiences because the world is buzzing around us, not allowing room for breaks and breaths.

Holding onto platonic relationships that are not full of support, equality, understanding.

Giving a voice to the self-absorbed, entitled, ignorant.

Hiding behind facades of who others want us to be.

Self-deprecation.

Hatred.

Anxiety.

Fear.

Past resolutions we have outgrown.
